The department of Teacher Education came into existence in this institution in 1959 with the permission of beginning B.T. classes which were replaced by one year B.Ed. course in 1965. From session 2015-16 it has metamorphosed into a Two year’s course. The candidates are admitted through a state level combined Entrance Test followed by counselling conducted by the University. The faculty of Teacher Education is equipped with a Library-cum-Reading Room, ICT Resource center, Art and craft resource center, Health and Physical education resource center, science lab, separate toilet facilities for staff and male and female students etc. The department is situated in a separate campus. At present Dr. Sharmila Sharma is the Head of the Department and is ably assisted by his 7 colleagues.

Student and Teacher Strength – At present the department has strength of 7 permanent teachers out of 11 sanctioned posts to teach about 100 B.Ed. I year and 100 B.Ed. II year students. Retired and guest teachers also render their services to fulfill the task.

Curriculum Planning and Implementation – Curriculum plan and academic calendar is prepared at the beginning of the session. The classes, sessional and other co-curricular activities are organized accordingly.

Learning Resources – The faculty of Teacher Education has a separate library with a collection of text books, reference books, encyclopedias, dictionaries, educational survey reports, research survey reports, educational research journals, education commissions reports etc. The departmental library has about 5500 books.

Additional Study Material – Additional study material is provided to the students in the form of educational and psychological tests, reading material downloaded from the Internet etc.

Assessment –Regular assessment of the students is done through class tests, different types of competitions, home assignments and other sessional activities.

Learning Outcome – The Department has a consistent record with an average pass percentage of around 80 to 85 percent.

Best Practices – The Department organizes skill-based teaching programs for the development of teaching skill among trainee teachers. Group discussions, class room seminars, different competitions provide good class room learning experience to the teacher trainees.

Feedback from Stakeholders – Students feedback is collected, analyzed and summarized. It is communicated to the teachers.

Research and Publications – Out of seven permanent faculty members, five are Ph.D. holders and two are pursuing research leading to Ph.D. Degree. They contribute research papers and articles in different journals and magazines of repute.
