The department of Sociology was established in 1957 with 70 students at graduation level. Prof. R. C. Gupta was appointed in the Department. P. G. classes were started 1959 with the appointment of Dr. G. K. Narayan as the head and Dr. P. Goswami as lecturer. During the years 1960 to 1965 the department was temporarily joined by Prof. S. V. Tyagi, Prof. M. M. Kaushik, Dr. (Smt.) Bhatnagar, Prof. R. C. Sarikwal and Dr. V. N. Gupta. Dr. R. S. Varshney also joined the college and took the charge of headship from Dr. G. K. Narayan. During this period the department also remained engaged in research activities. Dr. Ravindra Prasad, Dr. Smt. Krishna Agrawal and Dr. Mukesh Chand were appointed in the Department later on. After the untimely death of Dr. Ravindra Prasad in 2008, Dr. Krishna Agrawal became the Head of the department. Recently, Dr. Mukesh Chand was transferred to Mathura and left the college. After that Dr. Shanti Swaroop has joined the department on 9th July 2019 after being transferred from S.M. College, Chandausi (Moradabad). At present three permanent teachers are working in the department. Mr. Jay Pratap Singh was appointed as assistant professor  in 2022 through Higher Education  commission Prayagraj.

Student and Teacher Strength – At present the department has a sanctioned strength of 3 teachers to teach about 700 undergraduate and 120 postgraduate students.

Curriculum Planning and Implementation – The classes of undergraduate and post graduate courses are organized according to the academic calendar and curriculum plan prepared at the beginning of the session.

Learning Resources – The college library has a collection of several rare books. Besides this, the department has a library having about 100 books and journals available for consultation to teachers and students.

Additional Study Material – Class notes, reading material, reference books, journals, PPTs, material taken from internet are given / shown to the students.

Assessment – To assess the students’ progress, regular quizzes, class tests and different competition are conducted.

Learning Outcome – The average pass percentage of the students of department is around 85%.

Best practices – The department regularly conducts a number of competitions including debate, poster presentations, paper presentation, quizzes, etc. An interdepartmental activity on “Public Health Awareness” has been organized to connect the students with the society.

Feedback from Stakeholders – Anonymous student feedback is collected, summarized and communicated to teachers.

Research and Publications – Department faculties regularly participate in national and international seminars. A number of research papers have been published in renowned journals. Ph.D. programme is also undertaken by the department. At present five students are enrolled for Ph. D. programmes in the department.
